In the back seat of a car, somewhere on a long drive, his grandmother turned her profile toward the front seat and held still. A six-year-old with a pencil inhand and an envelope for sketchpad, studied her face - the line of her jaw, the curve of her ear, the way her hair sat - and drew what he saw. Before he handed it to her, he already knew. He could do this. He has never stopped.
George paints in sunlight because that's where he has always lived - and sunlight, he has learned, is where color tells the truth. He works in watercolor, though most people don't believe it. The paintings have a presence, a weight, a depth that doesn't match what people think watercolor can do. That surprise is part of it. So is the light.

Frequently Asked Questions
do originals come framed?
Originals ship unframed, carefully packed, because shipping a framed work often are several hundred dollars, sometimes more than the painting itself. A frame ordered directly from a frame maker is generally cheaper for you and safer for the painting. If you're in Arizona I often have a frame ready, so ask when you visit the studio.
What sizes do you paint?
These days most all of my paintings are standard sizes for frames like 8x10, 12x12, 11x14, which means frames from a standard frame shop can be used, although my personal preference is plein air frames and no matting.
Do you offer international shipping?
Yes, we proudly ship worldwide. Each piece is handled with the utmost care and professionally packaged to ensure it arrives in perfect condition, no matter where you are.
Do you take commissions?
Yes. I paint portraits, pets, places and other subjects from your photos and stories. Write to me with your idea and we'll talk it through.
